Carole King's Un-Happy Days

Here's a bit of gossip a little bird told me...

According to my source, Carole King was originally involved in writing songs for Happy Days the Musical, which I talked about in this previous post. Apparently, for some reason, she walked away from the project completely, leaving the songs she wrote behind.

In the program for the reading that was held recently in New York, she isn't credited at all for music and lyrics, just Paul Williams. I also heard that the Carole King songs were the best ones...

But since I wasn't there myself, that's just "earsay"...

In addition, when Carole King was performing at Casino Rama recently she sang one of her songs from Happy Days the Musical. I have a feeling this ain't over yet...

I actually was involved in the reading in New York and in even earlier renditions. It is true that at one point Carole King was involved with writing the music for "Happy Days the Musical", but she was collaborating with Paul Williams. When Carole left the project Paul Williams rewrote the entire show. All of the material seen in New York is Mr. William's except for the original "Happy Days" theme song.

Thanks for the clarification! Do you know what
the next step for the project is?
Right now I believe the producers are trying to get a national tour off of its feet. I am not sure what the time line is but I will let you know when I hear, which should be within a month.
