Sing-a-long Sound of Music Returns to Hollywood Bowl!

The most fun you'll have singing Edelweiss!

According to this article in Playbill:

The interactive musical evening, Sing-a-Long Sound of Music, returns to the Hollywood Bowl July 9.

"Bring the family and cheer for Maria, boo the Nazis, and cherish this cinematic masterpiece" reads press notes. The 6 PM evening, which begins with a costume parade, will be hosted by Melissa Peterman with the von Trapp Children as special guests. The pre-show will be followed by the 8 PM presentation of the "Sound of Music" film.

The Sound of Music originally opened at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in Nov. 1959. Mary Martin headed a cast that also included Theodore Bikel and Patricia Neway. Julie Andrews starred in the award-winning film, and the most recent Broadway revival featured Rebecca Luker as the beloved Maria von Trapp. The classic Rodgers and Hammerstein score boasts such tunes as "Do Re Mi," "My Favorite Things," "The Sound of Music" and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain."

The Hollywood Bowl is located at 2301 North Hollywood Avenue in Hollywood, CA. For tickets, call (323) 850-2000. Visit www.hollywoodbowl.org for more information.

"The Trapp Family Singers," Maria von Trapp's 1949 book that inspired the musical The Sound of Music, was based on the musical family who fled the Nazi rule prior to World War II.

What a blast! I enjoyed this even more than watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Roxy in my wild youth!

We actually saw Sing-a-long Sound of Music twice when it was playing in Toronto, once with just the family and once we built a whole birthday party around it for my oldest daughter.

The first time I went dressed up as "...a brown paper package tied up with string...", although the costume was pretty ripped up by the time the costume parade happened.

The second time we all went dressed as nuns for the party (my husband was a very manly nun!). What a great outing for a kids party. They get to watch a classic movie musical and learn a little history, but also get to yell, scream, hiss, cheer, sing and play with all the goodies from the goody bag. Too bad they havn't done this with more musicals. Perhaps they should consider doing the sing-along format with The Producers movie when it comes out in December -- now that would be a blast!
