Bruno Kirby Dead at 57

Finding those two unopened copies of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY on my DVD shelf reminded me I had neglected to do a post on an actor whose work I have always enjoyed throughout the years -- Bruno Kirby.
Bruno Kirby died on August 14, 2006 from complications from leukemia, according to this article on CNN.com.
One of my first formative TV watching experiences (and trust me, I've had many) included Bruno Kirby. My very first exposure to Bruno Kirby was when I was ten years old and watched "A Summer Without Boys" on TV in 1973. It was a bit risque, shall we say, but still good fun for a ten-year old...especially one who watched the Watergate hearings.
Barbara Bain was in it too (SPACE 1999, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!) The spin the bottle scene from that movie is seared into my mind. Maybe that's why I wanted to work up at a lodge up north when I turned 16...
Then of course there were the guest spots on ROOM 222, EMERGENCY, KOJAK, And then came WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. Wow. Legendary stuff. My all time favorite chick flick movie. The scene between Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fisher at the restaurant. "Restaurants are to people in the '80s what theatre was to people in the '60s...I read that in an article" "I wrote that!" Or the scene with the wagon wheel coffee table...or the game of charades -- baby fish mouth! The wave and Mr. Zero. A thousand wonderful moments.
Bruno Kirby will be missed.
