Rockin’ Around the 4J Class!

It's that time of year again!

It's been a tradition ever since my oldest was in Junior Kindergarten, to bring in a Christmas carol with new grade-specific lyrics reflecting what they studied in first term, to share with the class. I've done it for both girls each year, and this will be the first year that I'm only doing it for my youngest. My oldest daughter is now in grade 7, so alas, I fear it isn't cool anymore! Here is what I wrote for my youngest, in grade 4. I can honestly say it's the first time I've rhymed "Igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic" in song before:

Rockin’ Around the 4J Class
(Sung to the tune of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas tree”)

Rockin’ around the 4J class
Cuz we’re all geologists
Igneous, sedimentary
And metamorphic all exist!

Rockin’ around the 4J class
From the east coast to the west
Provinces, territories too
Power pointing was our quest

Cedar Glen and making fossils saying hi to Cole
Mental Math, and prompts for writing
Gee, The Wiz was so exciting

Rockin’ around the 4J class
Our recorders we did play
Singin’ a jazzy Christmas song
Have a happy holiday!

UPDATE: My daughter's teacher wrote me a really nice thank you note:

"4J and I would like to thank you so much for creating 'Rockin' around the 4J class'. Your daughter did a lovely job singing it to the class and teaching us the song. This morning, we had a great sing-a-long! The song is absolutely wonderful and something that I will always treasure.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful present.

You're welcome!
